Forth Jouster and Sentinel

Although a regular visitor to the pier at Scarinish, and the owner of a high visibility jacket, it still does not have the words CalMac on it! From today’s visit to the pier there appeared to be more workers for Briggs Marine arriving on the island. From a bit of research I can report that they have indeed the contract to replace the sub-sea electricity cable.  Their website states that the work started on Saturday 15th February and is scheduled to finish on the 1st March 2014.

Cable installation is to be carried out in the daytime, but in the “case of limited visibility vessels will display the appropriate lights”. The vessels will also transmit an AIS signal and a continuous listening watch will be maintained. Four vessels, two of which have already been seen on site, will be carrying out the operation: Forth Guardsman, Forth Sentinel, Forth Jouster, and Celtic Explorer. This evening ‘Forth Guardsman’ is berthed at the North Pier Oban having arrived from Scrabster. More information on the project can be found on the Subsea World News website. The sad news is that tomorrow’s sailing of the Oban, Coll and Tiree Ferry has been cancelled.  The CalMac Status reports, “Due to adverse weather and swell conditions, with south southwesterly winds up to 45 knots , this service has now been cancellation. The next sailing will be Monday 24.02.14 at 06.30 hrs as per timetable. Calmac Ferries apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Reason: adverse weather Last Updated: 22 Feb 2014 18:01. There will be no going down to the Pier to watch the arrival and departure of the MV Hebrides.

In CalMac speak “Due to Technical Reasons” Friday’s edition of  ‘Antirisdeach’, the Island’s Newsletter, failed to appear. Islanders eagerly await the publication’s arrival. I just hope any printer repair man arrived today and was not planning on coming tomorrow!

God willing, Tiree Baptist Church meets on Sunday morning at 11.00am at AN Talla for worship. Thankful for so many young people normally in attendance, tomorrow (23.02.14) will be an All Age Service at which we will be sharing with God, our Best Friend. The Church of Scotland will meet at Heylipol for worship at 11.30am.  The amazing thing is that God wants us to enjoy him now and forever.
