On a Tuesday evening in June the ‘MV Clansman’ enters Gott Bay and almost effortlessly berths at the pier. The foot passengers descend the gangway and the vehicular traffic is unloaded via the ramp and linkspan. Once the cyclists have made their way up the pier loading commences. The last vehicle to make its way down the pier and onto the linkspan is carrying an unusual load – an aircraft.
The Cessna 182T Skylane N2231F was involved in an incident at Tiree Airport earlier in the year and was unable to fly off the island. Thankfully no one was injured in the accident. The task of transferring the aircraft to the Mainland was handled by local haulier ‘I A MacKinnon’. Ian, who has a track record for responsible delivery of vulnerable and valuable goods, specialises in managing the logistics of isolated destinations and overcoming challenges associated with poor infrastructure, ferry timetables and adverse weather.
It just goes to prove that even the plane takes the boat from Tiree.
