The Mighty Clansman inbound from Barra powers into the Gunna Sound that separates the Isle of Tiree and its neighbours Gunna and Coll. On a day of almost unbroken sunshine, with warm temperatures, the Clansman makes an impressive sight as she passes in front of the distant Coolins of Rum.
The once a week sailing from Oban to Coll, Tiree and Barra means that the Clansman calls at Tiree twice on a Thursday. This gives visitors six hours to tour the island either by the excellent coach tour (which comes personally recommended), by cycle or on foot. Bookings for the coach tour can be made with the CalMac Tour Office in Oban. Brochure available here.
Those on the ‘Experience Tiree Tour’ have the opportunity to watch the Clansman make its way through the Gunna Sound before the tour returns to the pier, just in time to catch the evening sail back to Oban. On a day such as today, not only are the views from the boat amazing, the sunset in the Sound of Mull is spectacular.
