At 3.00am the (UCT) wind speed was 54mph with gusts of 77mph and the rain lashing on the house. It was loud enough to waken you. Those who have lived on the island far longer give words of encouragement, indicating much worse can be expected. The day broke with waves breaking on the rocks in front of our home. One minute the sun attempted to make an appearance and the next dark clouds blanketed the sky heralding the next cloud burst.
By 3.00pm (UCT) the wind was no more than a gentle 9mph and the sun was shining. What a stark contrast between the night before and this afternoon, between sunrise and sunset.
