An Auction of various promises (as well as a silent auction) was held at An Talla in aid of Curam’s Resource Club, Tiree. Set in Roman times the auction was firmly rooted in Tiree and spoke volumes of a caring, generous community. Kate MacCallum introduced the evening’s events with Will Wright serving as a quick thinking, witty auctioneer. John Bottomley displayed the various bids with a strangely modern twist, digitally projecting them onto a screen. Their smiles are a reminder of what a fun filled evening it turned out to be as friends out bid friends in their bid for the various lots, so fulfilling the catalogue’s statement of intent: All these items have been offered to help raise funds in a fun way for a serious cause – Curam’s Resource Club.
‘Cùram’ is a Gaelic word meaning simply ‘Care’ and the Resource Club supports 43 people in the community, which results in them having more choice, control and independence in their lives. Additionally they support 16 families who are caring for relatives or friends. Thanks to the generosity of those giving and buying over £4,000 was raised towards the annual budget of over £25.000. So many helped in so many ways to make this a memorable community event.
