Tiree Excels

Tiree is not just one of the sunniest places in the UK, it excels when it comes to sunrises, sunsets and rainbows. Unlike 2013, November 2014 has been a mild month and relatively calm. Today has hardly seen a breath of wind and any clouds have only made the sunset all the more spectacular. Throughout the month there has been rain, but nothing like the rainfall of the previous year.

Today is Saint Andrew’s Day and historically significant in Scotland. Andrew was the disciple who introduced his brother Peter to Jesus. This Saint Andrew’s Day has also been the first Sunday in Advent. Advent is a word meaning coming and is a reminder that Jesus has come. What an amazing thought that Creator became part of his creation for Jesus is God with us. Advent is also a reminder that Jesus has come and by his Spirit lives in the life of his disciples. Again what a staggering thought ‘God in us’. Finally Advent is a reminder of Jesus’ promise to come back again. He has given us his Word, “I am coming soon.”

As I look at the rainbow, I am reminded that the living God always keeps his promises. Somehow the sunset today made me think of Jesus’ word of promise, “I am coming soon.”
