On a raw winter evening, with the wind gusting up to 40mph, the Clansman berthed at 17.00 hours with a special sailing from Oban via Coll thus ending the week’s stormbound conditions. The last ferry to berth at Tiree was Monday’s timetabled sailing of the ‘Lord of the Isles’. Almost the whole CalMac fleet was forced to stay in port because of this week’s Winter Storm resulting in Tuesday’s and Thursday’s timetabled sailing’s to Coll and Tiree being cancelled. The island’s store was left without deliveries, so this evening’s arrival was most welcome. Local parcel deliveries and postmen will no doubt be extra-busy. At 17:15, with lights wishing travellers a ’Happy Christmas’, the Clansman left for Oban. As the pier lights went out, the clouds scudded across our star lit sky. Once again thanks are due to all who work at the pier.
