It is mixed news on the Transport links to the island.
As more or less expected, due to adverse weather and sea conditions, Thursday’s sailing (12/3/2015) has been cancelled. The helpful news is that a replacement service will operate on Friday 13th March as follows: Depart Oban: 13:00; Arrive Coll: 15:40; Depart Coll:15:50; Arrive Tiree:16:45; Depart Tiree: 16:55; Arrive Oban: 20:15. All timings are approximate and intending passengers should therefore check in no later than 30 minutes prior to these departure times.
Additional Weekday flights from the 1st of July 2015.
Minister for Transport and Islands Derek Mackay has stated, “I’m delighted to announce extra return flights between Tiree and Glasgow – a route that provides the island with a vital social and economic lifeline, ensuring businesses, residents and visitors remain well connected.”
“We have listened to the local community, particularly businesses linked to tourism, who have asked for extra capacity on this route. Not only will these additional flights provide a boost to the tourist industry, but they will also offer residents more options when it comes to travelling to the mainland.”
This means “5 flights extra, 1 each weekday using twin otter, 1 Saab on a Saturday and1 twin otter on a Sunday.
Thanks are due to the Community Council for the sterling work they put into brining the additional flights into being.
