Today saw the start of the 2015 Summer Timetable and with it the arrival of a new skipper on the Clansman. There was no great fanfare for either the Clansman or its new skipper. In fact their 9:05 arrival was marked by low cloud and steady soaking rain.
With this being the start of the Easter Weekend the vessel was fully booked for vehicular traffic from Oban and there was also a steady stream of foot passengers disembarking. As a consequence of last Tuesday’s ferry cancellation, because of adverse weather and sea conditions, some vehicles have been unable to find a booking until Sunday. It also meant that our only food store was not restocked from Saturday until Thursday. The shelves looked distinctly bare!
With only a whisper of a breeze the new skipper, a MacNeil from Barra, brought the Clansman alongside the pier. Although new to the Clansman he has previously captained the MV Lord of the Isles and is not new to the crossing. Nevertheless the Clansman is a very different vessel to ‘LOTI’. Congratulations!
Now all we need is for the sun to return this weekend and especially for the ‘Sunrise Service” on the beach in front of the Manse on Sunday morning. (Almost as early a start as this morning’s passengers experienced.)
