Unexpectedly the MV Clansman was diverted on her sailing this morning from Castlebay (Barra) to Oban in order to collect vehicles and passengers from Tiree and Coll. The scheduled ferry, MV Lord of the Isles, set out from Oban but did not berth at either Coll or Tiree. The stated reason given at the time was adverse weather. Our own correspondent on Coll reports that there was a sea mist, but the word is that there were technical problems.
The MV Clansman departed Tiree for Oban at 12:50 with an expected time of arrival in Coll of 13:45. The plan is for the vessel to depart Oban at 17:45, and instead of sailing directly to Castlebay, to divert to Coll (eta 20:25) and Tiree (eta 21:35). For those waiting for the arrival of the dentist for urgent dental treatment this is a further painful wait. Nevertheless, it is good to see some lateral thinking from CalMac.
