Fàilte Do Thiriodh – Welcome to Tiree. Life on Tiree welcomes the two weekday return flights to the island which commenced with the start of the summer timetable and is meant to continue under the new contract. Another welcome sight are the two new twin otter planes which have only just come into service. Tiree Airport is vital to the island community and not just for passengers – most of our mail and the daily papers come by plane.
It is always a joy to welcome visitors, especially family members and so it was a real pleasure to give the red carpet treatment to one of our sons and to show off the island at its best – friends, white sandy beaches, blue sky, azure-blue sea, colourful Machair and spectacular sunsets.
It was so tempting to linger at Vaul until the final rays of the sun disappeared in the western sky. What a panormaic view – just part of the romance of the Hebrides.
And to think we could have read at the pier gone 11.00pm
