It has been a day of dramatic contrasts.
Joys and sorrows reflected in the weather.
Sunshine and black skies.
Calmness drowned out by high winds
and squalls of driving hail.
It was a great privilege this afternoon to be involved in
Tiree High School’s (Àrd-Sgoil Thiriodh) Carol Service
held in Heylipol Church of Scotland.
Family members and friends joined with staff and pupils
to sing familiar carols and listen to traditional readings.
Many of the carols, readings and prayers were in the Gaelic.
It is such an encouragement to hear the Gaelic spoken
even if I am conscious of my limited vocabulary.
The hard work put in by both staff and pupils
was evidenced this afternoon.
After the Carol Service we took the opportunity to visit the Wild West.
The prevailing wind was driving in the breakers.
Oh! The power of wind and waves.
One of the Bible’s song writers with honesty wrote,
I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.
