Return of the Gloaming

With the clocks set to British Summer Time,
we have the return of the gloaming,
that very special time of the day.

The clock may be registering 8:18pm.
The sun may have set 7:56pm.
It is still light at 8:56.
It is the gloaming.

Summer, Winter, Spring, Autumn
Each sunset is distinctively different.
With its big skies Tiree specialises in sunsets.

The day did not live up to the weather forecast.
Sun and clouds traversed the skyline.
It was good day for walking.

Romin’ and  Gloaming’ are great words.
It was Sir Harry Lauder who made them famous.
Many of his songs were inspired by his love for his wife.

Here is his famous traditional Sottish song:
Roamin’ in the gloamin’ on the bonnie banks o’ Clyde,
Roamin’ in the gloamin’ wi’ ma lassie by ma side,
When the sun has gone to rest, that’s the time that I like best,
O, it’s lovely roamin’ in the gloamin’!
