What a wonderful introduction to Colonsay.
On a day on which the sun has continued to beam down
We joined a most interesting four hour history walk
around Balnahard at the north end of the island.
The guided walk by Colonsay enthusiasts
took us through spectacular scenery.

On arrival at the pier we were greeted and given a welcome pack.
The pack is helpful, but it’s the thoughtfulness that impresses.
We have arrived during Colonsay’s Spring Festival.
There are various walks, talks and activities.

How different the scenery on Colonsay is from either Coll or Tiree.
It is a reminder how different the various Hebridean islands are.
Tiree is surrounded by shell sand beaches and is low lying .
Colonsay is craggy with green valleys and fields.
It has the feel of the West Highlands.
Tiree is almost treeless.
Colonsay has woods.

So often in life differences are allowed to divide.
Tiree may not have the welcome pack.
But is there a ‘Colonsay Wave’?

I enjoy the words of the song by Moira Kerr,
The ferry leaves from Oban every day
And passes Tobermory on the way,
Then just beyond the lovely isle of Coll,
Is Tiree, the most beautiful of all.

This doesn’t mean you cannot appreciate other islands.
There is a right pride in the place you live.
Belonging is so important in life.
Vive la différence.
