It is a sign of the times that Tiree Community Council is proposing to try to “adopt” the majority of telephone boxes in Tiree.

Another sign is the sight of traffic management as contractors work to complete the task of running the fibre optic cable to the green cabinets in Pier Road (Scarinish), Crossapol, and Kenovay. Although not working at the gloaming, they certainly took advantage of Tiree’s long daylight hours.
The subsea cable has been laid and repaired. The new green cabinets are in situ. And now the fibre optic cable is being run to the cabinets. Although slightly behind the forecast, hopefully, soon some of the premises will have access to higher speed broadband than at present.
Tiree’s connection to the Fibre Network is not the complete answer to the island’s communication needs. However, along with a dedicated vessel and two sailings on a Saturday in the high season months and July and August, a seven day plane service with two flights six days a week, connection to the Fibre Network is one more step in equipping the island’s businesses and making it easier for some residents to access vital services.

The Community Council deserve our thanks for their efforts on our behalf.
