The Skipper thanks the Pier Master for thirty years of faithful service.
At the end of this tribute there is spontaneous applause.
Members of the ferry’s catering staff join in.
The date is 27th August 2016
Video of the retiring pier master and his successor
As the Clansman salutes the retiring pier master Roddy Mackay
his successor, Steve Nagy, walks down the pier,
although at the time this was an unknown.
Steve Nagy has served as the Tiree Ranger responsible for
safeguarding and promoting the island’s environment
since his appointment to that role in August 2013
As Tiree Ranger, Steve was no stranger to the pier and office.
A regular at the CalMac Office, he met camper-vans coming off the ferry.
However, in more recent times Steve has taken up working on the pier itself.
From Monday the 24th of October Steve will take up his new appointment.
In his time as Ranger Steve co-authored a book on Tiree Walks.
Perhaps we can look forward to one on CalMac ferries.
Talking of such a book,
there already exists a great read –
‘The Kingdom of MacBrayne’ by Donald E. Meek and Nicholas S. Robins.
Congratulations to Steve on his appointment.
He takes up his new role at the start of CalMac’s new contract.
Whatever the future impart of the contract, Steve has big boots to fill.
This is ‘Life on Tiree’.
