This morning the sun burst through the clouds momentarily.
For the most part it has been a grey, windy day.
What a contrast with the previous day.
A day to look back on thankfully.

Just after 9 the sun began to put its head above the headland.
At first light there was a hint of the coming sunrise.
Faintly the outline of Jura’s Paps could be seen.
Sunrise is over all too quickly.
But what pleasure it gives.

Daylight hours are short.
The birds in the garden make the most it.
We follow the words of the song, ‘Feed the birds’.
At times there were 30-40 birds enjoying tucking in.
Mainly starlings, some rock doves and one or two sparrows.

All too soon darkness begins to descend
Sunset is around 4:00pm.
Time for a walk.

This afternoon’s walk started by heading for the pier.
There were no dramatic reds, nevertheless the sky was colourful.
I appreciate the way in which both sand and sea reflect the setting sun.

Opposite the Pier Office are 2 short palm trees.
There are not many trees or varieties of trees on Tiree.
However, here is evidence that it is possible for palms to survive.

It is the turn of the memorial to stand out as a silhouette.
This evening the backdrop is a sight to behold.
By now there are reds and oranges.

Arriving home the sun had dropped below the horizon.
The sky still like an artist’s palette.

The moon could be clearly seen as the sun was setting.
As the sky turned black star after star could be seen.
The moon shone bright.
Tonight the rain is battering against the windows.
It is winter and the day itself has been grey and windy.
This morning for a brief moment the sun shafted through the clouds.

This is ‘Life on Tiree’ thankful.
Thankful for golden rays.
And refreshing rain.
