Today the Mighty Clansman came to the rescue.
There have been no flights to or from Tiree since Thursday evening.
The island and its airport have been covered by a blanket of dense fog.
The sound of the ferry’s powerful horn could be clearly heard.
There was no sign of the Isle of Mull or Treshnish Islands.
The Passage of Tiree was shrouded by the fog.
You could not see across Gott Bay.
With no prospect of a plane this morning travel plans were changed.
Some passengers booked on the plane opted to travel by the ferry.
So it was a relief to see the Clansman berth.
Everyone was thankful for calm waters!
At Glasgow airport would be passengers learnt the plane was cancelled.
Some have opted to travel to Oban to cross over on Sunday’s ferry.
The person preaching in the Church of Scotland is among them.
Now we have learnt this evening’s flight is also cancelled.
Help we have a problem! – Help is on hand!
The island depends on the air ambulance service.
There was an urgent need for the ambulance plane to land.
Thankfully, there appears to have been a brief window this afternoon.
They pulled and they pulled until they pulled the gangway down.
Back on the pier this morning
those on board the ferry must have wondered
if they were every going to get away to the Mainland
or were they destined to be trapped here on the island.
With the ferry loaded they proceeded to lower the gangway.
The hoist however jammed and the gangway was stuck.
Members of the crew wrestled to free it.
The gangway was not for moving.
Thankfully those working on the pier came to the rescue.
Thanks to their strenuous effort the gangway was lowered.
They thew a rope that was attached to the gangway and they pulled!
They pulled the gangway free of the ship and gradually lowered it down.
The headline should read, “Tiree Pier Staff come to the rescue of the Clansman.”
This is ‘Life on Tiree’ on an island under a blanket of fog.
This is the continuing tale of island life.
The joys of island life.
