There is no bridge or tunnel linking Tiree to the Mainland.
For vehicles the only link is the CalMac ferry to Oban.
Many foot passengers choose to travel by ferry.
The crossing is normally just under 4 hours.

There are occasions when the ferry is unable to make the crossing.
The worst case scenario is for the ferry to fail to berth at Tiree.
A journey of 8 hours in rough seas to no avail.
Today along with others we are stranded in Oban.
It is Thursday and the ferry did not attempt the crossing.
Wind and wave conditions were too rough at Tiree today.
CalMac have announced there will be no crossing until Saturday.
They have added the caveat – Saturday’s sailing is weather dependent.
We have an unplanned stay in Oban of 2 days.
We woke up to a beautiful winter morning.
Oban Bay was like a mill pond.
Sky and sea were blue.
It is hard to believe the ferry cannot make the crossing!
It is calm in Oban but it is a different story at Tiree.
So we decide to explore Oban on foot.
The views were so rewarding.
These are not views of Tiree.
They are the consequence of ‘Life on Tiree’.
What a joy to explore Oban on a winter’s day like this.
This is Life on Tiree on an unscheduled stay in Oban.
