It really feels as if Tiree has woken up.
(Not that the island was ever really asleep.)
The weekend ferries have been extremely busy.
The birds are singing and the machair is awakening.

Mother and Twins in Scarinish

Out and about you are conscious of birdsong.
Walking or driving you sense colour returning to the island.
When the sun shines the sea turns so many different shades of blue.

From a few daises at your feet we are seeing more and more.
From just hints of yellow you are aware yellow flowers are reappearing.
In about a month’s time the Machair will be a veritable feast for the eyes.

With the return of CalMac’s summer timetable there is a ferry every day.
The island is busier and so are our two grocery shops.
There are many more visitors on the island.
Yet the island never feels crowded.

Over the winter many of the cafes close.
This year both the Cobbled Cow and the Hynish Centre stayed open.
With the Easter holidays started the cafes and restaurant have reopened.
Chocolates and Charms – the Tardis of a Gift Shop has also opened its doors.
