Whether you live on Tiree
or you are a visitor to the island,
you cannot help but be aware of Tiree’s colourful carpet.
No matter how you arrive on Tiree,
whether you come to the island by ferry or plane,
at this time of the year you will soon walk on our colourful carpet.
The carpet had its annual winter shampoo.
Earlier on it had a brief spring clean.
Now its looking wonderful.
Now officially in Summer the island is ablaze with colour.
North to south and east to west Tiree is in bloom.
It is a delight to traverse the island.
The carpet extends right down to the shore and by the harbour.
The carpet is even to be found on the smallest of tidal islands.
Down by the pier the floral carpet greets the arriving ferry.
Some people like to inspect our colourful carpet close up.
In fact you can even purchase a guide to our special carpet.
“Wild Flowers of Coll and Tiree”
by John Bowler, Emma Grant, Charlie Self and Simon Wellock.
At present the carpet is enhanced with yellow iris.
Sometimes the carpet almost leads up to the front door.
It is not unknown for some to give the natural loom a helping hand.
Having flowered twice and producing 8 flowers,
the amaryllis was thrown outside and discarded,
so imagine our surprise when it produced this beautiful single flower.
You wonder what this has to say about Tiree’s climate!
