Feature Image – Sunrise over the Passage of Tiree
What a weekend to be off island.
What a weekend to be away from Tiree.
Well what is so significant about this weekend?
First of all on Saturday there is the revealing of the Tiree Flag.
Earlier in the year there was a competition to design a flag.
Then there was a public vote to choose the winning flag.
This had to meet with the approval of Lord Lyon.
He regulates heraldry in Scotland.
The date for your diary is 2:00pm, Saturday 8th September.
The venue for this unique occasion is An Talla, Crossapol.
This is a historic occasion which cannot be repeated.
The winning designer will raise his or her flag.
The Tiree anthem will be sung.
Am Falbh Thu Leam, A’ Rìbhinn Òig
The flag will be toasted with a dram.
There will be a piece of Tiree dumpling or shortbread.
There will even be a free lapel badge of the new design.
What a weekend to be off island!
The second event is the annual Tiree Ultra Marathon.
The race takes in miles of the finest Hebridean scenery.
It includes many of Tiree’s famous white shell sand beaches.
Registration is on Saturday at An Talla, Tiree’s Community Hall.
The race itself commences on Sunday morning at Eight.
The starting point is on the sands of Shorobaidh Beach.
And after 35 miles the race ends at An Talla.
As usual the race is fully subscribed.
Entries are now closed.
Just how do they do it?
How do they take on an evening event?
The evening is much more than an awards ceremony.
After an ultra how do they manage to put everything into the ceilidh?
‘Life on Tiree’ has to tender an apology for absence.
Two great events that we have sadly to miss.
The Isle of Tiree is the place to be.
